Our History
In the mid-1800s, residents needing metalwork services in the greater New Preston area would travel to the local blacksmith shop. It was the hub of the town, and folks would gather there to share local news and keep up on the goings-on of the area while the farriers attended to their needs.
Fast forward 170 years.
Local residents and visitors stop by the renovated blacksmith shop aptly called The Smithy. They enjoy a rotating array of products from local farms and food purveyors. Local news and area happenings are discussed while patrons peruse items for sale. Artists are showcased in the upstairs gallery and patrons enjoy outdoor music events. The Smithy's commitment is to source local, small-batch, and sustainable food items whenever possible. This is the best of all the local farm markets in one place. Fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry, cheeses, eggs, bread, baked goods, and flowers are available year-round.
